Cloth Diapers
I have decided (in my first-time mom innocence) to use cloth diapers. I've already talked to a friend who uses them, and I've done some research online, and the mental commitment is made. Now for the monetary commitment: what brand to try? It is definitely an initial investment (though in the long run, much cheaper than disposable), so where should I start? Any advice?

The most economical way to go is probably prefolds and covers, but most daycares won't really go for that. If I were you, I'd get maybe a dozen one-size pockets diapers (like Bumgenius), so you don't have to keep rebuying as the little one grows, and use those for daycare. Then get 15-20 prefolds in sizes small and medium, and 3 or 4 covers in both sizes, as well. Also, take a free class at The Little Seedling in Ann Arbor, and they'll give you the whole scoop. my advice...don't do it!!!!!!!!!! Just teasin! more power to ya! you are brave and earth friendly! hope it goes well for you but i have no advice in this area...love your blog tho! so excited for you!
ReplyDeleteYay for you! It isn't first time mom innocence. I did it with # 1 and I'm doing it with #2 also. It is a great environmental choice and it's great on your pocket too. Especially if you plan to have any additional children. I use just basic prefolds with basic wraps (Pro Wrap is the brand I think) and it is probably the most inexpensive route. However I also have some "All-in-ones" (AIO) which are great for overnight, babysitters who are freaked out by the idea of cloth diapers, or just general convenience. I used some Kushies AIO for a while and they didn't hold up as well as the Bum Genius ones I am using now. I could go on and on.
